Maxwell is a modern blog theme with an ultra-clean and elegant design. With its beautiful typography and thoughtful use of white space, Maxwell truly helps you and your content stand out.
Maxwell includes support for Featured Content, which allows you to highlight your three most important posts at the top of the blog. The Featured Content area shows the featured images and excerpts of your posts.
Multiple Color Schemes
Maxwell includes six free color palettes to choose from. For more, unlimited colors (and Typekit fonts) are available with the Premium or Business plan.
Social Media Icons
Maxwell makes it easy to link to your social media profiles with a Social Links Menu.
Maxwell features a mobile-ready layout that looks great on any device and screen size.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):
- The width of the content area is
- Custom Header Images are
1180 wide and have a flexible height.
- Featured Images are
560x400 on blog index and archive pages, and
810x580 on single posts and pages.
After activating Maxwell, navigate to the Customizer to set up and personalize the theme according to your needs. You can add a Site Logo, Header Image, and Background there.
Featured Content Area
Maxwell supports Featured Content, which allows you to highlight your most important posts. The featured posts appear at the top of the blog.
To set up the Featured Content area and add posts to it:
- Go to Customizer → Featured Content.
- Enter the name of a tag (e.g. featured).
- Click the blue Save & Publish button at the top.
- Create a post with a Featured Image.
- Assign the post the tag you chosen in Step 2.
You can assign Custom Menus to four available locations:
Maxwell supports a Social Links Menu in the site header. Add a custom link with the URL to your social media profile (e.g. https://twitter.com/your-name) and the corresponding icon will appear.
The following sites will automatically display their icons in your menu:
- Email (mailto: links)
- RSS Feed (urls with /feed/)
You can add extra content to your site using Widgets. Maxwell supports five widget areas:
- Footer Column 1
- Footer Column 2
- Footer Column 3
- Footer Column 4
Maxwell adjusts the width of footer widget columns automatically, and shows fewer columns if you don’t add widgets to every footer widget area.
You can change the position of the sidebar widget area from the default right to the left side, under Customize → Theme Options.
Maxwell supports Content Options and allows you to show or hide author bio, post details, and featured images.
