Adding a logo
You can add an image logo to your Headlines header space very easily by navigating to your Appearance → Theme Options in your WordPress backend and select the General Settings tab. Then click on the Upload button under the Custom Logo header.
Adding your latest tweet to the header space
With Headlines you can display your latest tweet in the header space, to the right of your logo. To set this up navigate to the Appearance → Theme Options then click on the Layout Options and add your twitter username there. Click Save Changes and it should start working immediately.
Setting up your navigation menus
By default the Headlines themes displays two navigation menus below your header space, the top navigation menu is reserved for your WordPress pages, whilst the one directly below is reserved for your blog post categories.
With Headlines you however also have the option to disable any one of these menus under the Appearance → Theme Options → Navigation panel.
You also can overwrite these two navigation menus with menus that consist of pages, categories and external links all combined in whatever order you like.
Find out more about this on the WordPress.com Custom Menu documentation page.
In the secondary navigation you can enable Category Descriptions if you are only using categories in this navigation. To do this, go to WP Menus and click Screen Options in the upper right corner and then click each parent category and fill out the description.
Setting up your home page featured slider
Navigate to your Appearance → Theme Options in your WordPress backend and select the Featured Slider tab. Then tick the Show the featured panel on the front page.
To pull through posts into this featured slider you must tag your blog posts with a specific tag, for example in our demo we’ve used “featured” as the tag. We set the posts to have this tag and then in theme options panel we specified this tag. You can have more than one tag to pull posts from, just make sure the tags are separated by commas.
You also have the option to show the featured banner in the top left of the post graphics, animate the slider and set auto heights for the slides.
Setting your featured image for your posts
On our demo you will see a thumbnail next to each post, as well as a featured image in each slide of the featured slider on the home page. To set this image, you need to add your image/s to your blog post and then in the Featured Image form, to the right of the WYSIWYG editor, select a particular image to be the one used in the slides and as a thumbnail in the post view.
Moving your sidebar from the right to the left of your theme
With Headlines you can move the sidebar to the left of the content, instead of as how it appears by default after being activated to the right of the content. To set this up navigate to the Appearance → Theme Options then tick the Show sidebar on the left instead of right checkbox.
