Sixteen Nine Theme

Sixteen Nine is a brand new theme created by StudioPress founder Brian Gardner for his own website. He’s since moved on to a new design, but now it can be all yours.

Sixteen Nine is the quintessential setup for a personal blog but far from limiting. Which makes sense, based on how Brian named the theme.

Behind the Scenes

Sixteen Nine takes its name from the elevation of Mount Everest’s North Base Camp (16,900 ft). Located in Tibet, it is the more difficult of Everest’s two base camps to set out from because of the extra permit required. South Base Camp is in Nepal and is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Himalayas.

But regardless of where climbers start, reaching the top is all that matters. Likewise, whether you have personal or professional goals in mind for your site, you can use Sixteen Nine to get there. Check out the demo or just go ahead and buy it now.

Custom Header

Customization is a good thing. Sixteen Nine allows users to upload their very own custom image header to obtain a much more personalized look and feel.

The use of this option is completely free, and you do not need to purchase the Custom Design upgrade in order to change your header.

Custom Background

What a statement a custom background image or color can make!

Sixteen Nine allows you to customize the background of your blog by either uploading an image or selecting a color.

Custom Layouts

You can choose from 2 different layout configurations for Sixteen Nine — either show a sidebar on the right side of your content, and simply display a wider column of content.

The layout for Sixteen Nine is responsive, meaning the header area and sidebar will move according to screen size. On larger screens, the header area will move to the left, forming a 3 column layout. On smaller screens, this left sidebar goes to the header area.

How to Customize the Header

By default, the theme will use your Gravatar image in the header. To replace it, follow these steps.

  1. Inside your dashboard, go to Appearance > Header.
  2. Choose your header image from the uploads box on this screen. Images of exactly 224 × 224 pixels will be used as-is.
  3. Click the “Save changes” button to save and visit the front of your site to see the change.

How to Customize the Background

By default, the theme will use your background image in the background area of the sidebar. To customize it, follow these steps.

  1. Inside your dashboard, go to Appearance > Background.
  2. Choose your header image from the uploads box on this screen. It does not need to be a specific size, as the theme is responsive and will shrink and grow the image as needed. Larger image do work better, but also take a bit longer to download for the viewer.
  3. Click the “Save changes” button to save and visit the front of your site to see the change.

How to Add a Custom Menu to Your Site

  1. Inside your dashboard, go to Appearance > Menus.
  2. Create a custom menu with the links you want to display.
  3. Inside your dashboard, go to Appearance > Widgets.
  4. Select the Custom Menu widget and place it into the Header Right widget area.
  5. In the Custom Menu widget interface, select the custom menu you want to display.
