Singl: Blog

Singl is a minimalist theme that helps you to create a strong — yet beautiful — online presence. Primarily designed for music artists, Singl is a powerful and flexible theme.

Optimal layout on different media devices

Singl is responsive — from desktop to mobile, and everything in between. The design will adapt to any screen without sacrificing usability or design integrity.

Front Page template

As the name suggests, this template is perfect for the front page, where you can introduce yourself to the world. One detail worth noting about Singl‘s Front Page template? It will also display child pages — so, it’s perfect if you want to have multiple sections.

Singl: Front Page

When you first activate Singl, your posts will display in a traditional blog format. If you’d like to use this template as the front page of your site, just follow these instructions:

  1. Create or edit a page, and assign it to the Front Page template from the Page Attributes module.
  2. Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
  3. Select the page you just assigned as the “Front page,” and then choose another page as the “Posts page,” which will display your blog posts.

Custom menus, header, and background

Singl allows you to have a custom menu in the theme’s header. It can be set up by going to Appearance → Menus. Don’t forget to tick “Primary Menu” in the Menu Settings; if the option isn’t ticked, Singl won’t display any menu in its header.

Singl also lets you choose a custom header image. Simply go to Appearance → Header and set your new header.

And finally, you can easily apply a background color or image by going to Appearance → Background.

Theme options

Singl comes packed with multiple theme options available via the Customizer, including:

  • Full Page Background Image: set your background image to cover the whole page and stay fixed.
  • Subscribe Form: display a subscribe form in the theme’s footer.
  • Social Networks: add social links (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, SoundCloud, Last.fm, Spotify, and iTunes) in the theme’s header to make it easy for your readers to stay connected with you.

Set up your site like Singl‘s demo

Want to replicate Singl‘s demo site? Here are the five steps:

1. Front Page and Blog

For the front page content, we used a SoundCloud shortcode. We also added a child page (“The Deep Web Tour”).

2. Custom menu

By default, Singl will not display any menu. To add one to your header, go to Appearance → Menus. Once your menu is created, tick “Primary Menu” in the Menu Settings.

3. Theme Options

Navigate to the Customizer, where you will find a Theme Options panel.

Tick “Full Page Background Image” and “Subscribe Form,” and then add your social network links.

4. Follow blog

Since we ticked the “Subscribe Form” theme option, we don’t need to display a follow button to logged-out users. Go to Settings → Reading and update your Follower Settings.

5. Sharing

On Singl‘s demo site, we also disabled the Sharing Buttons on pages so they don’t appear on the Front Page. To do the same, navigate to Settings → Sharing and update the “Show buttons on” setting.

Custom colors

Singl is designed to work seamlessly with Custom Colors and the Custom Design upgrade. Are the current colors not your style? We’ve included a few featured color palettes to inspire you, or you can choose your own.
