Oxygen theme is a minimal yet beautifully designed magazine theme. With your nice pictures, the crisp and well balanced design makes your blog a professional looking magazine instantly.
Showcase Page Template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format. If you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template.
To use the template, create or edit a page, and assign it to the Showcase Page template from the Page Attributes module. If you’d like use the Showcase Page template on your front page, go to Settings → Reading and set the Front page option to Static Page. Select the page you just assigned the Showcase Page template to as your front page and then choose another page to serve as your blog page.
The Showcase Page template offers a featured slider for up to six Sticky Posts that have a Featured Image at least 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Featured Slider in Showcase Page template
To get the most of this theme, setting Featured Images is important. Featured Images appear in the featured slider in the Showcase Page template, or as a post thumbnail in your list of Recent Articles. Post thumbnails are
470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re
750 pixels wide.
Oxygen is stunningly beautiful out of the box but it offers great custom appearance options. In addition to a Custom Background, a Custom Header, and three Custom Menus, you can customize this theme even more with nine font families, five base font sizes, and a custom link color.
Oxygen offers seven widget areas:
The Primary Sidebar displays categories and archives by default, and the Secondary Sidebar displays search, links, and meta by default if no widgets are configured in Appearance → Widgets.
The four Footer Columns and After Post widget areas are optional and will display only when configured. The After Post widget is handy for including a brief author description or perhaps a list of tags or categories to help readers more effectively discover your awesome content.
Oxygen supports up to three Custom Menus that can be configured by going to Appearance -> Menus:
- The Primary Menu appears below the Site Title
- The Secondary Menu appears with a black background, just underneath the Primary Menu
- The Tertiary Menu appears in the footer
Oxygen is designed with responsive design in mind. It provides a tailored layout depending on the device you are using. This makes your blog look good not only on desktop browsers, but also on devices with smaller screens, such as the iPad and iPhone.
