With its Talavera pottery-inspired bright colors, dynamic shapes, grungy textures and whimsically off-kilter text in the main menu, Matala will give your site a fun, colorful feel. Matala sports a two-column layout with a right sidebar, making it perfect for journal-style blogs.
Custom Header and Background
You can use Matala’s design as is, or create a brand new look of your own with a custom background image and custom header image. Put a personal touch on the existing Matala design with a custom header image. Or, if you want to create an entirely new design — combine the custom header image with a custom background.
When you add a custom background image or color, the main content area and right-hand sidebar will turn white, transforming Matala into a blank canvas that awaits your creations.
Single-Image Pages and “Random Photos” Gallery
Matala shows off your single images in style with a full-width, one-column template. Even cooler? You have the option of displaying a gallery of three random photos at the bottom of this one-column template:
The “Random Photos” gallery randomly selects from photos that you have uploaded and added to posts. If you want this gallery to appear, turn it on in Appearance → Theme Options.
Sidebars and Widgets
Matala comes with 3 widget areas: the right-hand sidebar and a “supplementary widget area” which consists of two columns at the bottom of the main content column. The “supplementary widget area” will only appear if you add widgets to it.
Matala supports seven post formats — status, aside, quote, image, video, link, and gallery. Each of these post formats gets a special, hand-drawn icon in the top right corner of the post, and, in some cases, a slightly different visual style. This helps your readers distinguish at a glance the type of post you have written.
