Inuit Types is a bold magazine theme with unmistakable style, mixing stark minimalism and hold type with prominent Featured Images and lots of options for layout. Your posts are presented as either images with titles or excerpts you can define to get your visitors clicking through to read more.
The demo shown above uses four featured images, two columns in both the images and the main posts list, the default white color scheme, and a left sidebar.
Let’s take a look at what’s available for you to tweak in Appearance > Theme Options.
Six Color Schemes
Inuit Types comes with a total of six color schemes that change things up while maintaining the same minimalism and high-contrast feel. You’ve seen the default above. Here are the rest:
- White-Red
- White-Green
- White-Blue
- White-Purple
- Dark-Black
- White-White
Movable Sidebar
Where do you want the main content of your site to be? Left, or right? With Inuit Types, you can make the choice. Keep your sidebar on the left, like the demo site, or move it to the right, like this:
Featured Post Entries
At the top of your main column, the most recently published articles appear, along with their chosen Featured Images. You can display up to 10 of your most recent posts in this way.
One Column Featured Posts
Do you like a small grid of these featured posts, as in the demo example, or would you prefer a single column, with wider and larger images? You can make the choice and end up with more prominent display of your photos and images, like this:
One Column Normal Posts
The same choice exists for your regular posts – would you like them in one column or two? A two-column view puts more of your posts in the same amount of space, while the one-column view lets your excerpts breathe and creates a wider canvas.
You can mix and match the column settings for your featured posts and other posts to give your site a unique look and feel based on your content.
Single Post Featured Images
Since you’re already using Featured Images to make your main index page beautiful, why not display those images when your readers are looking at individual posts? You can turn on or off the display of these images when readers are examining single posts. Turning on the option gives your images focus, like this:
Using Excerpts
Posts displayed on your site’s main page use the Excerpt content in Inuit Types. If you haven’t seen this before, take a look at this Support document explaining their use. If you don’t specify an excerpt, Inuit Types will automatically pull the first bunch of words from your posts and create excerpts of its own, but you can exercise control over your content and give your readers an extra reason to click and learn more.
