Featured Images

Want to highlight your content visually? Consider adding a Featured Image to your posts! Featured Images will appear above the content at the full column width and unlimited height on the blog index and archives pages.

Post Formats & Sticky Posts

Flora and Fauna supports the Aside, Image, Video, Quote, Link, Gallery, and Status Post Formats, allowing you to easily create a tumblelog of your favorite finds.

All post formats display with a unique background color for the date flag, and a link to the post format archive in the entry meta:

Theme Options

You can use the handy theme options to personalize Flora and Fauna by adding links to your favorite social networks, under Appearance → Customize → Theme Options.

Social network icons for Email, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter will appear at the top of the Sidebar if you enter their respective URLs in the fields provided:

Custom Menus

Configure a custom menu that will display in the header of your site by going to Appearance → Menus and assigning it to the Primary Menu area.

Widgets

Flora and Fauna supports up to four widget areas – one Sidebar and three optional Footer Sidebars – that can be configured under Appearance → Widgets.

Full-width Page Template

To give your content more room on select pages, you can remove the sidebar with the Full Width, No Sidebar template under Page Attributes.

Custom Header and Background

You can upload your own flexible-size custom header to Flora and Fauna under Appearance → Header. The header will display just above your site title. You can also add your own background image or color under Appearance → Backgrounds.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)

  1. The main column width is 660 except in the full-width layout where it’s 960
  2. The Sidebar width is 250
  3. The Footer Sidebar widths are 660 each

Featured Images

Setting a Featured Image

Open the editor of the post or page where you want to display a unique custom header image, and locate the Featured Image module in the bottom right corner under Page Attributes. Click Choose a Featured Image.

If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.

You will see an uploading screen identical to that used when inserting an image into a blog post. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose the image from your computer and upload it or choose it from one of the images already in your Media Library.

Once the image has successfully been uploaded, you’ll see one or more images displayed as thumbnails. Click on the one you want to use as a featured image. It will then appear outlined in blue with a checkmark. If desired, you can add a caption and alt text under the Attachment Details area (optional).

Next, click the button Set Featured Image:

Don’t forget to click Update on your post/page to save your changes. Your featured image is now set!
