Currents is fully responsive, content focused & news driven theme for WordPress designed by Andy Rutledge. The main characteristics of Currents is how it chooses to offer headline post titles to visitors through a simple yet sexy design. Sometimes less really is more!

Responsive Design

The design will scale to fit on all browser widths/resolutions and on all mobile devices. Go ahead and scale your browser window and see the results. A custom homepage featured post slider to showcase your noteworthy news content, all powered by the fully responsive slider, which makes it usable on mobile devices.

Custom News Areas

Deliver your site content to visitors through the Recent News area on your homepage, Featured Category areas on homepage and archives, and Related News on your single post page.

Easy to Customize

Currents comes with an extensive set of theme options that make it easy to fit Currents to your site’s unique personality. From Appearance → Theme Options you can set the color scheme of your site with one click and also take total control of the animated Featured Post slideshow. There is also options for adding your social media profiles to the theme, through the icons in the header.

Color Schemes

As noted above, Currents has multiple color schemes—six of them! Just one more feature that can help make Currents the perfect fit for your site.

Three Customizable Menus

Currents also has three menu areas: A top menu that typically holds your Pages, and a secondary menu to hold your Categories, and also a footer menu. You can take control of these areas in Appearance → Menus by creating your own custom menus and assigning them to either menu location.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):

  1. The main column width is 520 except in the full-width layout where it’s 800.
  2. The sidebar width is 240.

Adding a logo

You can add an image logo to your Currents header space very easily:

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end.[View screenshot]
  2. Select the “General Settings” tab.
  3. Click on the Upload button under the “Custom Logo” header.
  4. Choose an image to use as logo and upload it and select “Insert into post” to use it.

Setting up your navigation menus

By default the Currents theme displays one navigation menu in your header space. There is also an optional top navigation.

You can customize these two navigation menus with menus that consist of pages, categories and external links all combined in whatever order you like.

Setting up your home page Featured panel

To pull through posts into this featured slider you must tag your blog posts with a specific tag which you’ve set in your options panel:

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end.[View screenshot]
  2. Select the “Featured Panel” tab and tick the “Enable Featured” check box. [View screenshot]
  3. Add a “tag” which you want to use to pull through featured posts e.g. “featured”.[View screenshot]
  4. Go to Posts>Add New to add a new post, add your title and content.
  5. Add the “featured” tag to your post [View Screenshot].
  6. You also need to set a “Featured Image” on your featured post, as the slider only shows posts with images [View Screenshot].

Setting your featured image for your posts

On our demo you will see a thumbnail next to each post, as well as a featured image in each slide of the featured slider on the home page. To set this image, you need to add your images to your blog post and then in the “Featured Image” form, to the right of the WYSIWYG editor, select a particular image to be the one used in the slides and as a thumbnail in the post view.

  1. Go to Posts->Add New to add a new post, add your title and content.
  2. Click on Set featured image link in the “Featured Image” panel to the right. [View screenshot]
  3. Upload an image to set the featured image.

Setting up your Recent News Area

To pull through posts into the Recent News module [View screenshot] on the homepage you need to navigate to your theme options panel and follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end.[View screenshot]
  2. Select the “Recent News Area” tab and tick the “Enable Recent News area on the homepage” check box. [View screenshot]
  3. Add the categories which you want to use to pull through into this area. [View screenshot]
  4. Go to Posts>Add New to add a new post, add your title and content.
  5. Add the category to your post [View Screenshot].
  6. You also need to set a “Featured Image” on your featured post, as the slider only shows posts with images [View Screenshot].

Setting up your Featured Category Area

This module functions exactly like the “Recent News Area” so follow the steps above under the corresponding “Featured Category Area” theme options panel [View Screenshot].

Setting up your Related News area on the single posts

This module allows you to display posts on the single post view for further related reading [View Screenshot] – a great way to encourage click throughs to other posts on your site. [View Screenshot].

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end.[View screenshot]
  2. Select the “Related News” tab and tick the “Enable Related News” check box. [View screenshot]
  3. Specify how you want to find related posts, i.e. via posts in the same category, and/or posts tagged the same.
  4. Specify the number of related posts to show at maximum.
  5. Remember to categorise and tag your posts for maximum related posts to display. [View screenshot]
