Collective features a flexible Homepage Template layout. Display featured Pages, Posts and Team Members. In addition, the logo, optional footer widgets and social media links offer more flexibility — allowing you to customize the theme layout to match your style and brand.

Portfolio Page Template

Collective features a Portfolio Page Template that can be used to showcase projects or artwork. The Portfolio Template features a filterable category menu, and is capable of displaying posts in a one, two, or three column layout.

Page Templates

In addition to the previously mentioned templates, Collective also includes a Full Width Template, Featured Content Slideshow Template, Traditional Slideshow Template, Site Archives Template, and a Three Column Template for displaying content in a variety of different ways. Page Templates can be changed in the Page Attributes module.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):

  1. The main column width is 800.
  2. The sidebar width is 280.
  3. The footer widget area widths are 264.
  4. Featured Images are 1600 wide by unlimited height on Sticky posts, and 1600 by 600 as header images on single posts and pages.

Main Logo

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Theme.
  2. Choose Logo from the Customizer sidebar.
  3. Follow on-screen instructions.
  4. We recommend the logo image be 120 pixels high.
  5. Click Save Changes.

Setting Up the Home Page Template

  1. Create a Page, preferably titled “Home.”
  2. Set the Home Page template within the Page Attributes module.
  3. Navigate to Settings  Reading within the Dashboard.
  4. Choose the option to display a static page for the Front page.
  5. Select your newly created “Home” page from the Front page drop down list.
  6. Click Save Changes.
  7. Set the options within Appearance → Customize → Theme.
  8. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

Setting Up a Blog Page

  1. Create a Page, preferably titled “Blog.”
  2. Navigate to Settings  Reading within the Dashboard.
  3. You should already have the option to display a static page under “Front Page Displays.”
  4. Select your newly created “Blog” page from the Posts page drop down list.
  5. Click Save Changes.

  2. Set the Team Members template within the Page Attributes module.
  3. Publish or Update the page.
  4. Set the options within Appearance → Customize → Theme.
  5. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

Posts with a Category assigned to the Team Members template will display in a different layout, with the Featured Image displayed in the left sidebar.

Setting Up the Portfolio Page Template

  1. Create a Page.
  2. Set the Portfolio template within the Page Attributes module.
  3. Publish or Update the page.
  4. Set the options within Appearance → Customize → Theme.
  5. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

To display filterable categories on the Portfolio template, the Category selected within the customizer will require child categories. For example, a parent category of Portfolio, and child categories such as Painting, Illustration, Design, Photography, etc. will display as filters when the parent category is set in the customizer.

Featured Content Page Template

  1. Create a Page.
  2. Set the Featured Content Slider template within the Page Attributes module.
  3. Add a Tag to the Posts you wish to display in the Slider, e.g. “featured.”
  4. Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
  5. Enter the name of the Tage.g. “featured.”
  6. Click the blue Save button at the bottom.

Once a Tag has been saved, posts having the selected Tag will appear in the Featured Content Slider. You can specify an image to be displayed with each post by setting a Featured Image.

Three-Column Page Template

  • When creating a new page, choose the Three Column template in the Page Attributes module.
  • Be sure to add Widgets to both “Left Sidebar” and “Right Sidebar” under Appearance → Widgets.

Setting Theme Options

All options for the Home, Team, Featured Content Slider and Portfolio page templates are set within the customizer by navigating to Appearance → Customize → Theme. Once the theme options are set, make sure you Save the changes.

Troubleshooting

If your “Read More” link on the homepage does not link to the selected static page, but instead links back to the homepage, check the following:

  1. Under Settings → Reading, be sure your static front page (e.g. About) is not the same as the page chosen under Customize → Theme.
  2. Likewise, under Customize → Theme, be sure the static page (e.g. About) from the drop-down under Home Featured Page is not the same as the page chosen under Settings → Reading.
