Easy to Customize

Bold News comes with an extensive set of theme options that make it easy to fit Bold News to your site’s unique personality. From Appearance → Theme Options you can set the color scheme of your site with one click and also take total control of the animated Featured Post slideshow. There is also options for adding your social media profiles to the theme, through the icons in the header.

Two Customizable Menus

Bold News also has two menu areas: A top menu that typically holds your Pages, and a secondary menu to hold your Categories. You can take control of these two areas in Appearance → Menus by creating your own custom menus and assigning them to either menu location.

Adding a logo

You can add an image logo to your theme header space very easily:

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end. [View screenshot]
  2. Select the “General Settings” tab.
  3. Click on the Upload button under the “Custom Logo” header.
  4. Choose an image to use as logo and upload it and select “Insert into post” to use it.

Setting up your navigation menus

By default the theme displays two navigation menus below your header space, the top navigation menu is reserved for your WordPress pages, whilst the one directly below is reserved for your blog post categories.

You can overwrite these two navigation menus with menus that consist of pages, categories and external links all combined in whatever order you like.

Setting up your home page Featured Slider

To pull through posts into this featured slider you must tag your blog posts with a specific tag which you’ve set in your options panel:

  1. Navigate to your Appearance->Theme Options in your WordPress back-end. [View screenshot]
  2. Select the “Slider” tab and tick the “Enable Slider” check box. [View screenshot]
  3. Add a “Slider Tag” which you want to use to pull through featured posts e.g. “featured”. [View screenshot]
  4. Save your settings
  5. Go to Posts>Add New to add a new post, add your title and content.
  6. Add the “featured” tag to your post [View Screenshot].
  7. You also need to set a “Featured Image” on your post, as the slider only shows posts with images.

Setting your featured image for your posts

On our demo you will see a thumbnail next to each post, as well as a featured image in each slide of the featured slider on the home page. To set this image, you need to add your images to your blog post and then in the “Featured Image” form, to the right of the WYSIWYG editor, select a particular image to be the one used in the slides and as a thumbnail in the post view.

  1. Go to Posts->Add New to add a new post, add your title and content.

Homepage layout control

With the Bold News theme you can have one column of blog posts under the optional slider, or split your posts into two columns, like in our demo.

Adding footer content

With Bold News you have the option to have up to four widgetized footer regions.
